Hi, my name is
Maria Poliansky – Aaria.
I am an
artist living and working out of my studio in Montreal, Quebec.
Art
has always been a great passion of mine.
I pursued my studies in this field and
have obtained a Bachelor Degree in Applied Arts & Design. Since then, I have continued improving and refining my art by working and collaborating
with other experienced artists in my native country, Ukraine,
as well as in Canada,
where I settled in 1994.
For more
than 20 years, I have been exploring different mediums such as drawing, mural
painting, batik on silk, textile design, printmaking (mostly etching and
monotype), but painting has always been my favorite way of expression.
In my
current paintings I use oil, alkyd, acrylic, mineral pigments and mixed media
to explore the phenomena of color and transfer it onto the canvas.
I am constantly experimenting with visual ideas and design, based on the
extensive arsenal of technical skills that I have developed over the years.
My recent paintings, which you can see on this website, range from abstract to more figurative works, and size from small intimate pieces to huge canvases
comparable to murals.
As an exhibiting
artist, I have been represented on several important international shows,
including the 1st International Biennial (BIMP) in Vancouver, Canada,
where I received a Special Jurors
Acknowledgement for my work
"The Nest II".
I have also
obtained many accolades including being one of several Canadian artists
selected for a touring international exhibition "Relativities",
organized by Off-Centre Gallery, Bristol, and Bristol City Museum & Gallery
(a tour of 13 galleries in England, Wales, Scotland and Seattle, USA,
2000-2003).
I would
like to say that this online gallery would have never been possible without the
help of my husband, Vlad, who devoted a great amount of time designing my
website, photographing, and supporting me in my endeavors, and I am immensely
thankful for that.
